CDC Tips from Former Smokers
CDC's Office on Smoking & Health launched the Tips From Former Smokers (TIPS) campaign on March 15, 2012, to raise awareness of the human suffering caused by smoking and to encourage smokers to quit. These compelling, personal stories communicate the real and devastating consequences of smoking. New ads have been developed for the 2020 campaign featuring former smokers with chronic conditions such as Buerger’s disease, heart failure, and COPD. The Real Cost
FDA's first youth tobacco prevention campaign, "The Real Cost," is designed to educate at-risk youth aged 12-17 about the harms of tobacco use. There are more than 10 million at-risk youth in the U.S. who are either open to smoking or already experimenting with cigarettes. "The Real Cost" campaign seeks to make these youth hyperconscious of the risk from every cigarette by highlighting consequences that youth are concerned about, like loss of control due to addiction, tooth loss and skin damage. In its newest ads, the campaign focuses on smokeless and spit tobacco, targeting boys who live in rural areas and are most at risk for smokeless tobacco initiation, and seeks to educate them about the dangers of the product.
